Make a monthly tax-deductible donation of $25 to Pathways to English to become an English language mentor to a student at the Foyer Coin des Cieux (Corner of Heaven Home), an orphanage in St. Marc, Haiti.

Pathways to English has joined with Foyer Coin des Cieux and International Language Programs (see ILP.org) to help these children break the cycle of poverty by working to become proficient in English. More than 80 orphans and other children from the village are attending classes daily at the orphanage. To help defray the increased operating expenses incurred since opening the doors of the school to the community, we are seeking individuals who would be willing to make a $25 per month donation to serve as an English language mentor.

Mentors would be asked to participate in a monthly online webcam chat session with their student to hear his or her progress in learning English and to provide encouragement. The sessions are expected to last approximately 15 minutes each. Because of logistical consideration at the orphanage, we hope mentors will have some flexibility in their schedule to fit in with the orphanage’s schedule for when it could conduct the sessions around class time and meal times.

Students and Mentors

Note: Haiti observes the U.S. Eastern time (as of March 2017, Haiti is back on daylight savings time with the U.S. east coast).

Monthly mentoring sessions begin in September 2017. Dates and times for mentoring sessions have been distributed to all mentors. If you haven’t received your mentoring assignment, please contact us. There are still children in need of mentors. So if you are in a position to do so, please visit our CommitChange page here. Or email info@pathwaystoenglish.org if you have any questions.

The Big Idea

This effort to build and equip classrooms at the Foyer Coin des Cieux (Corner of Heaven Home) orphanage in Saint-Marc, Haiti, is the first step in the "Big Idea." The Big Idea is about seeking to break the poverty cycle in Haiti for these orphans by providing them the opportunity to not only learn English, but to receive a full education in English. An education in English opens doors for employment opportunities for these children, who are frequently the latest in a long line of impoverished Haitians. Pathways to English is a non-profit foundation that is working with Foyer Coin des Cieux, an orphanage operated by Carole and Fritzner Morlant, and ILP, a well-established organization that has just announced plans to send its first group of volunteer teachers to the orphanage. Help us build and equip the third-floor addition to enable the orphanage to accommodate more teachers and students. Every dollar you donate will go directly to constructing and equipping the classrooms. All travel and administrative costs will be borne directly by the Pathways to English founders.
